Internship Logs

Day 1

Today was my first day as an intern at the Willows Homeowners Association. It’s an organization that manages The WIllows apartment complex. I am interning as an office assistant. Today the office manager gave me a mission to back up important papers and file them into a computer. I enjoyed this task since I take pride in organization. I scanned important documents and then filed them into organized folders electronically. It was a repetitive process; un-staple papers, scan, name document, file in appropriate folder and then re staple papers; however, I didn’t mind.

Day 2

Today I did something similar to the previous day, only a little more challenging. I scanned insurance documents which we’re 30+ pages thick and double sided. I needed to figure out how to scan double sided papers. I figured it out pretty quickly. Problem solving was an important skill I learned today. Today consisted of a lot of down time since it took 7-10 minutes to scan each packet. I’ve noticed how much I enjoy working at a computer and recognized how much I admire organizing.

Day 3

Today I shifted gears and worked with packaging and mailing. My duties included: stamping envelopes with their return address, locating packages for residents and having them sign off that they received their package. I utilized my neatness skills and customer service skills today.

Day 4

Today we were getting prepared for the big mailing job I’d do tomorrow. Over 200 packets needed to be printed. The office manager and I walked to Office Max to show me how to use their printers in case I would need to do the printing job. Once we got back to the office I finished my scanning job. I then labeled over 600 envelopes for tomorrow. I found out that the homeowners are voting on board members and that the process of doing so is complicated. Everything needs to labeled correctly otherwise the votes are void and the whole process would need to be done again. This put a lot of pressure on me since I am the one preparing everything for mailing. I learned to be quick but thorough.

Day 5

Today was my last day of my internship. I stuffed all of the envelopes that I have been preparing over the week, It was a big job and 4 other staff were helping me. We all had to work together and come up with a process that was efficient and accurate. Once we finished I took over all of the envelopes to the post office and mailed them out.

Closing Report

For some this internship probably doesn’t sound very interesting; however, I enjoyed helping out a place I have called home for 17 years. I don’t necessarily want to work for a homeowners association in my future but I did realized that I do enjoy office work.
